Captive Prince Wiki

The Regent is the main antagonist of the Captive Prince trilogy. He holds the throne of Vere for his nephew, Laurent, until Laurent is of age to inherit.

Appearance[]

The Regent has a bulky, heavy-shouldered physique. His hair and beard are dark brown. He bears little resemblance to Laurent.[3]

Relationships[]

Nicaise[]

There is no love between Nicaise and the Regent. It is a sexually and emotionally abusive, pedophilic relationship where Nicaise had very little choice in any matter and eventually leads to Nicaise's murder.

Laurent of Vere[]

After the death of his brother, King Aleron, and his sister-in-law, Queen Hennike, the Regent remained Laurent's only remaining family, thus becoming the newly appointed Regent of Vere.

When Laurent was still a child and grieving, the Regent took advantage of this and physically, emotionally, and sexually abused Laurent under the guise of comforting him. When Laurent started maturing, his uncle emotionally abandons him. Even after Laurent becomes twenty years of age, the Regent still treats his nephew as a child.

It is revealed in Captive Prince, that the Regent has had many attempts to murder Laurent and take his throne.

Trivia[]

  • While the Regent's name is never revealed in the books, C. S. Pacat had planned for his name to be Laurent but decided against it. [4]
